These were taken at a rowing competition which was held in Minamata City, Kumamoto Prefecture on August 1. It is one of the traditional summer events there. That day fifty-five boats, each of which is consisted of seventeen members from their workplace or district, competed with each other in the 300 meter course on the Minamata River to win a championship. They rowed with all their might raising a spray of water.
This must have been so much fun to watch...I would love to have been there! Wonderful action shots!
