On our way from the Kalaupapa Lookout, we visited a little museum and a sugar mill which was built in 1877 by Rudolph Meyer, an immigrant from Germany. They are now two of the sightseeing spots in Molokai. The following is from the website. The three-room mill has been reconstructed as a testament to Molokai's agricultural history. Some of the equipment may still be in working order, including a mule-driven cane crusher, redwood evaporating pans, some copper clarifiers, and a steam engine. A small museum with changing exhibits on the island's early history and a gift shop are on-site as well. The facility serves as a campus for Elderhostel educational programs.
