These are photos of an annual festival in Kumamoto City which was held the day before yesterday. It was the first time for me to take pictures of the festival, but I enjoyed shooting it for about two hours. According to the local newspaper, about 16000 people joined in the procession which consisted of lion dancers, three portable shrines and their carriers, young people dressed as samurai warriors, decorated horses and their followers. The streets were filled with the shouts of the festival participants, the sounds of taiko drums and bugles. The whole city was in a festive mood from morning to evening.
so colorful...i can hear the sounds of the taiko drums. Those are something special!
