Between Hilo and Keaau, we stopped at the Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Farm. It was a huge orchard surrounded by tall windbreak trees, which looked very imposing. I was impressed with them while looking out of the tour bus. The farm had a nut processing plant and chocolate factory which offered visitors self-guided tours in six languages including Japanese and free samples of their chocolate covered macadamia nuts. But I spent my time in a sourvenir shop, tasting samples and buying some nuts and chocolate for my family after I took a brief look inside the factory.
