On our second day on the Big Island, my four friends joined a tour led by a Japanese speaking Hawaiian guide. They went up to the 4,200-meter summit of Mauna Kea from which they enjoyed the sunset and starry sky after their visit to several sightseeing spots. I took a tour called "Grand Circle Island Tour" whose brochure says, "marvel at the wonders of the Big Island in all its grandeur", because I was afraid that I might have a heart trouble on Mauna Kea. I was the only Japanese on the tour, but I enjoyed talking with many Americans from the mainland. The pictures were taken at one of the Kona Coffee companies. I saw a tree house and a Hawaiian gecko there. It was my first time that I had seen the Hawaiian gecko. I don't like Japanese geckos, which are nocturnal. But I felt closer to Hawaiian diurnal ones, which look winsome. It may be because their eyes are round and their color is light green.
I love these little geckos! We had a favorite place to have breakfast outside. It was a little restaurant south of Kona about a 15 minute drive. We would put little jelly cups on the rail and these little geckos would try to lick the jelly. We soon had a whole bunch of them having breakfast with us! :0) I also like the little ones that chirp in our condominium. They get inside and sit high on the walls and make a chirping sound. They are supposed to be "good luck" in Hawaii and no one is ever supposed to hurt one! They are just the cutest ever!
