These are photos of mizugyo or ascetic training by water held at a Buddhist temple in our city last month. It is practiced to pray for the good health of the followers of the temple in the depth of winter every year. That day seven Buddhist monks wearing only a loincloth put cold water on their half-naked bodies, chanting Buddhist invocation.
Oh brrrrrr! I think that cold water is covering their entire body rather than just 1/2! At least the sun is out...I love seeing even another person photographing the event in the top photo. These are such excellent captures!
