Taking off and Landing

I am planning to go and photograph cranes in Izumi City, Kagoshima Prefecture this month. Every year more than 10,000 cranes migrate there from China, Syberia, and Mongolia to pass the winter. So I have been practicing photographing water birds at the mouth of the Kuma River with my super-telephoto lens since December. But it is still difficult for me to photograph them flying in the sky with my 200-500mm lens. These photos were taken hand-held with my 55-250mm lens with some croppings. I hope that I will get used to using my super-telephoto lens soon.

  1. I would be just as fascinated with these birds as you were! They are such a challenge to capture in flight. At least hummingbirds hover in one place for a while (sometimes). But, when they move they are gone so fast. I can't wait to see the cranes. What a wonderful sight that will be!
