There was a Shinto ritual at one of the shrines in out city early this morning. I went to photograph it, but I did not take any good pictures at all. After the ritual I happened to see an old lady crouching down to warm herself at an open fire, where old talismans such as good luck charms and sacred arrows were burning. While talking with her, I learned that she made it a rule to come to the shrine on January 3 every year.
