These were taken at an annual event of volunteer firefighter's teams held in Nankan Town, Kumamoto Prefecture in the New Year. As one of the blaze-battling drills, about 20 firefighters from four teams competed with each other in discharging water from the river with a hand pump and knocking a target ball out of the basket which was hung at the top of the 18 meter-tall pole. It has a hundred year-old history. 
How fun that must be to shoot the ball OUT of the basket! Great captures of a fun event.
