At a Local Festival (Kida)

Kida, which is literally translated as "turtle snake", is a fabulous animal with a grotesque snake's head and a turtle body. The Kida weighs two hundred kilograms and is carried in rotation by fifteen young men, being attended by several guards. It acts like a clown swinging its head to the right, left or even to the back. It surprises spectators on the streets by suddenly rushing forward, backward or spinning very quickly. It is the star of the festival because of its humorous performance. In the photo Kida is performing in the shallow water in front of spactators on the river bank.
