Near the Maruo Hot Spring in Kirishima, runs a brook of grayish white hot water because of sulfer. It is a natural hot spring. And beside it, there is a tiny rock bath which is said to be the oldest open-air rock bath in this area. On the day when I visited, I saw a young man enjoying the rock bath. He said that it was the best rock bath that he had ever taken. To my surprise, he told me that every year for the past four years he comes here all the way from Yamaguchi Prefecture which is more than 300 miles away. It is well-known that Japanese people love onsen, but he is a real onsen lover. Wow!
That looks delightful! I would love to be sitting where the gentleman is sitting. One of my favorite hot springs is called Mammoth Hot Springs. It has recently been fenced off because of volcanic activity. People have been scalded by the extremely hot floor of the pool. Many people are very unhappy about the closure of this area, saying, the foolish have caused others to lose this luxury. I agree... You have captured the beauty of this hot spring or "onsen" beautifully. Very lovely photos!
