I have heard that people in Europe and North America do not eat octopus. But we Japanese do in many different recipes. These pictures are octopuses which are being dried on strings attached to bamboo poles. They were photographed at a port in a fishing village in the Amakusa Islands, which are well-known for their octopus fishing. The shadows of octopuses are funny.
You're right, Ken. Most Americans don't each much Octopus. But in JulyI accompanied a girls soccer team (14 year-old-girls) on a trip to Arao City in Kumamoto prefecture, and we stopped at several roadside octopus stands. All of the girls on the team that I coach tried the octopus balls and most loved them!
