Dreamlike Bon Dance

These two pictures are from the main event of the Yamaga Lantern Festival which is performed on the playground of Yamaga Elementary School on the night of August 16 every year. It is called "Sen-nin Toro Odori."or "1000-Lantern Dance." It is the dance in which 1000 women, dressed in cotton summer kimono and bearing lighted gold and silver lanterns on their heads, dance all night long to a very slow tempo music. It was very fantastic and stunningly beautiful to see this dreamlike Bon odori dance with bright lanterns wavering in the dark night. The first picture was taken with my compact digital camera after I had sturuggled with camera setting on my digital single-lens reflex camera for some time. The second is one of the pictures which I photographed with the reflex camera. Obviously my compact camera is skilled than my photography.
