Usudaiko-Drum Dancers

It is said that this dance was originated with the Heike fugitives, who fled into the steep mountains of Kyushu early in the 12th century. It is unique that the dancers wear a crest made of the long plumage of kurekodori which is a kind of chicken which is kept only in Kureko in Kumamoto Prefecture. This dance was designated as a cultural folk art by the nation in 1960.
