Moon Viewing Night

On the night of August 15 of the Lunar Calendar, which was last night this year, the moon is said to be the brightest of the entire year. It is appreciated as Chuushuuno-meigetsu (brightest and most beautiful moon of mid-fall). By offering sake and a kind of dumpling together with Japanese pampas grass, we pray to the moon for the harvest from the fields. And, some people enjoy moon viewing sake parties, moon viewing tea parties, and others enjoy moon viewing concerts. The bottom picture is from today's local newspaper. In Kumamoto Castle, people enjoyed a tea ceremony under the harvest moon last night.
