Harvesting Rice

I took these two pictures while on my way to see my mother, who is in a nursing home in a rural town in Kagoshima. I saw this family working in small rice paddies alongside the road. I stopped my car and got permission to photograph them from the man who was operating a small rice harvesting machine. I found out that they were his father, his wife and his daughter, who is a junior high school student. I rarely see a harvesting scene like this in my neighborhood.

  1. These pictures are so good, especially when enlarged. I really like seeing the culture and traditions of Japan. I have never seen the rice plants at this stage. This is very interesting to me...real people doing real living. I love it!
