A Wild Flower in Mt. Aso Area

These are the wild flowers which grow only on the sunny highlands in central Kyushu although they used to be seen from western Japan to the Kyushu area. They are called "higotai" and are in full bloom at this time of year. They are about three feet tall and their ball-like flower is about two inches in diameter. They are designated one of the endangered plants and protected by the Environment Agency. They attract a lot of flower lovers or amateur photographers from all over Kyushu. They are really lovely wild flowers.
