These are the pictures of a spring Buddhist ritual held at a temple in Kumamoto City on February 28. Monks walked on burning fire and prayed for good health. After that people followed them by walking on embers of the fire with their hands clasped in prayer. I was surprised to see that there were three young foreigners among the followers. I talked to them and found out that they were American teachers working for elementary and junior high schools in that area.
These are great photos! They are definitely a lot of the world wouldn't know about. It's interesting about the American teachers. I am surprised that they would be allowed to participate. Very interesting.
